FROM THE INSIDE OUT is a series of abstracted florals derived from moments, feelings and bouquets in my life.

The underpinnings for each of these paintings is created from an energetic expression of emotions, feelings, and what is going on inside me, be it personally or as part of our greater collective. This initial phase can often appear as an energized chaotic, riotous mess of colour and lines, where I can so easily get stuck in the quagmire of all that I have expressed. How I navigate my way through this is by focusing on what is working amongst the wildness and weeding out all that I can let go. Inevitably, sometimes quickly, sometimes painfully slowly, the flowers reveal themselves and beauty emerges. The joyfulness that is found in my work comes from allowing the expression of all that is going on inside me and ultimately creating the capacity for joy to surface.

I am drawn to shapes and colours found in nature and express this in my work through painting with my hands, mark-making with pencil and oil pastel and use my brushes to coax out recognizable forms, thus cultivating lively florals that land somewhere between abstract and representational.
