Q & A
1) Have you had to adapt your studio/home/space to be more suitable to your practice during this time?
No, I am fortunate to have a beautiful room in my home dedicated to my studio. It has plenty of storage and lots of natural light.
2) Can you describe your daily/weekly art practice, anything that you do differently because your studio is in such proximity?
I prefer to paint in the morning and then revisit in the afternoon. The natural light is perfect then. Because I have a dedicated space already set up, I am able to leave my supplies out when I am finished for the day and come back when I feel inspired again.
3) Has this time of self-isolation changed your practice in any way. I know a lot of artists are missing things (materials, space, etc). Has this time pushed you to be more creative or think outside the box in your practice and can you give us an example?
I am painting more now that I am home in self-isolation as there are fewer outside distractions. I find I am not painting for any particular exhibition or deadline, more so for the joy of it. I find without any exhibition deadlines or gallery pressures; I am more relaxed when I paint.
4) What is your favourite part about your home-studio?
The storage I have, the natural light from my window and my unobstructed view of Mt. Arrowsmith.
5) Do you have any goals of creativity for this time?
I am trying to focus on a bright pallet and joyful paintings of isolation. I am also trying to broaden my subject matter and not stay in my comfort zone.
6) Any messages you would like to share with everyone during this time?
Try to stay positive and count your blessings....and know that this will end.
