Bio:
Lori Schiersmann is the owner and creator of Tin Cup Art.com. She lives in beautiful Deep Bay, in the heart of Vancouver Island. In her studio, she maintains lots of painting hobbies in Water colour, acrylics and dyes on silk.
She enhances all types of glassware using a “metallic” ceramic paste. Lori is the only one in Canada, if not North America, that is using this product this way, as it is especially produced for her in her usage.
Lori has been using this special paste for over 16 years and guarantees her purchased work for 3 years. (Most people have had their teapots and wine glasses for over 8 years!)
Each piece of glass or ceramics you see is hand “pasted” by Lori and is applied onto any glass, porcelain, or stoneware that can survive oven heat.
The Ceramic Pasted glass has 3 layers to obtain that 3-Dimensional feel and look of “Raku” Pottery. That “metallic” look, has no metals or toxic chemicals in this product, the shine is created by natural minerals, such as crushed mother-of-pearl, “fools gold” or fore-mica. When it’s baked, the ‘imperfections’ are ‘dried out’ and the paste is fused onto the glassware, making it totally dishwasher and microwave safe.

Q & A
1) Have you had to adapt your studio/home/space to be more suitable to your practice during this time?
My studio has always been my sanctuary. I do find myself in here more because of computer/skyping friends/ and getting away from kitchen...I hate cooking all the time, and eating. I can come up here and be surrounded by my art, or art I did with friends.
2) Can you describe your daily/weekly art practice, anything that you do differently because your studio is in such proximity?
Since I have my computer so close to my desk, I've been watching more people paint on line. I'm even getting in to other mediums, however, this is only my 'hobby' time. I'm usually 'paste-ing' up a storm for the Christmas Craft Fairs in November and the Gift stores...but with all the uncertainty, it kinda puts me in a funk and I tend to look elsewhere for creativety or inspiration. I'm still getting orders from my website: tincupart.com and mailing them to clients is no problem, so that's also my inspiration to work.
3) Has this time of self-isolation changed your practice in any way. I know a lot of artists are missing things (materials, space, etc). Has this time pushed you to be more creative or think outside the box in your practice and can you give us an example?
I have lots of supplies!! I have no problem with picking up some kind of medium supplies whether it's for Ceramic paste on glass, Acrylics, for a fun online class or painting on silk...I'm not worried. If I do run out of anything..I just buy on line..takes a bit to get here, but I'll never run out, or time or supplies.
4) What is your favourite part about your home-studio?
I love the view from my 8 x 7 foot window that looks out at the marina! I have my studio! It's painted in bright Orange and Yellow walls...I love colour! Actually, my bedroom is right next door behind the folded doors, and it's teal and tourquoise walls. All I need is a fridge and I'm all set. lol
5) Do you have any goals of creativity for this time?
Right now, all I want to do is breathe, pause, relax and paint. Maybe I'll do an acrylic painting today, as new glass shapes are washing in the dishwasher, and then I'll start them tomorrow, or not. Maybe I'll finish my online Water Colour Class with Marney Ward...I have lots of choices, so I won't get bored.
6) Any messages you would like to share with everyone during this time?
I'm surrounded by Glass of all shapes, and my dog sits at my feet, I hear my Daughter asking if I want lunch..my hubby out cutting the grass...The sun's shinning and I hear music...so right now, I'm creating new designs, but choosing what I want to do, when I do it and life is good....I think we're all taking a pause at this time..but life does go on.
