Q & A
1) Have you had to adapt your studio/home/space to be more suitable to your practice during this time?
I have always maintained an active studio on my property ... it is separate from the house and i am incredibly grateful to have this space to retreat to. My daughter is sheltering with us and so she and her creative pursuits have sort of pushed some of my paint aside... but ... its sort of fun to have someone in here with me. Usually i am alone ...except for my four fur children
2) Can you describe your daily/weekly art practice, anything that you do differently because your studio is in such proximity?
I have always treated this like a “job” since i turned to art full time. The idea is to be here in the studio by 10 am ... and ... its amazing how the day flies by and i have to drag myself back to the house to make dinner!
3) Has this time of self-isolation changed your practice in any way. I know a lot of artists are missing things (materials, space, etc). Has this time pushed you to be more creative or think outside the box in your practice and can you give us an example?
I have gone out to do Pleine Aire more ... i have taken the time to explore a new medium ... gouache... and am thinking of new ways to “teach”
4) What is your favourite part about your home-studio?
It is all mine ... nobody else gets in here . I just walk away from my projects whatever stage they are in ... i can crank my music up, practice my fiddle, listen to my audio books and get lost in my work however i wish
5) Do you have any goals of creativity for this time?
I was..... preparing for a show ... now ... we need one heckuva a big art show for all of us busy artist who have been frantically creating ... and hope everyone wants to purchase some new art for those four ugly walls they have been staring at !!!
6) Any messages you would like to share with everyone during this time?
I am grateful to my creative friends ... and community! It has been US...creatives that have filled the zoom airways with free art classes, music concerts, entertainment for children and kept ourselves very happy in our creative spaces. I hope that those who did not have a creative pursuit before this will have taken this down time to develop one and see how much better your life can be when you take the time to enjoy it!
