AVIVA STEIN-WOTTEN & WILF HATCH
STATEMENT OF WORK by Aviva Stein-Wotten
Exploring the disintegrating landscapes surrounding my home town of Nanaimo, BC, always with my camera by my side, I became fascinated with looking at a scene and then seeing it in a different light. So much has changed on Vancouver Island in the past decades, but much has stayed the same only it has been left to slowly fall apart.
Once in the darkroom, I began to experiment with printing in a way that left out pieces of the scene; through this, I am challenging and disrupting my own point of view, further decomposing each scene.
I am honoured to be showing my work alongside Wilf Hatch, my mentor and friend who has always challenged me to look at a scene through multiple lenses - sometimes literal lenses, sometimes the figurative.
