BONNIE LEFEBRE
CONVERGENCE
CONVERGENCE is a curated collection of textile fibre art by local artist Bonnie Lefebre.
Bonnie’s works of art features natural colours, derived from natural botanical dye plants, pigments and extracts. Various techniques, methods and means are utilized to infuse the natural dye colour onto or into natural fibres of silk, wool, linen and cotton. Lefebre’s art exudes a sense of place and the beauty in nature.
CONVERGENCE begins with foraging and gathering natural dye plant leaves, florals, roots and bark, mushrooms and lichen, or earth pigments. The Eucalypt leaf, respectfully gathered from the Lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung People of the eastern Kulin Nation in Australia, is presented in eight of Bonnie`s Botanical prints on silk. The British Columbia native Garry Oak leaf and the dye from the native Arbutus bark, sourced from wind fall on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish People, are infused into several different works of art in linen, silk and/or wool. Wildland or garden grown dye plants, florals and leaf, are infused and combined in several tapestries. CONVERGENCE is a melting pot of natural splendour.
Interpretive poetry by Jane Carruthers accompanies six of Bonnie’s Eucalypt works of art on silk. Jane’s artistry with words captures the complexity and cadence of the works of art and her poetry invites the viewer to imagine and look within, beyond and into the surface design, to explore the enchanted and greet the mystic.
CONVERGENCE is a fusion of inspirational, historical, cultural and traditional techniques, inclusive of the Art of Natural Dyeing and Eco-Printing, Korean Bojagi Patchwork, Japanese Shibori, Weaving, Patchwork and Quilting, Japanese Boro, Hand Spinning, Stitching and Machine Sewing with classic vintage sewing machines.
CONVERGENCE illustrates Bonnie’s passion and promise to her creative journey in natural colour, textiles and natural fibres.
