Happy Birthday, Djavan!

We celebrate the 64th birthday of Brazilian pop icon Djavan Caetano Viana with a program of great tunes by Djavan as well as Ivan Lins, Caetano Veloso, Dori Caymmi, etc. Featuring the internationally esteemed, San Francisco-based vocalist Sandy Cressman with pianist Ron Hadley, clarinetist Liam Hockley, bassist Joey Smith and drummer Bill Hicks.

University of Victoria School of Music Annual Unaccompanied Bach Competition Winners

It is our great pleasure to again work with The Lafayette String Quartet to present their leading students who have excelled at playing an entire unaccompanied Sonata, Partita or Suite by J.S. Bach by memory.

We are delighted that these two superb artists from Italy, who maintain busy international performance and teaching schedules, have included us in their Canadian concert tour itinerary. Works by Piatti, Chopin, Debussy and Prokofiev will be on the program.

This young fiddler and singer based in Victoria is the current BC Provincial Fiddle Champion. Sarah performs in genres ranging from old time to bluegrass to jazz and all the way to classical with a skill and maturity that belie her years. Don’t miss her!

This captivating ensemble mixes jazz and classical music in their own compositions as well as arrangements of works by Mendelssohn, Bartok and Debussy.

Patrick was born in Dublin, so expect to hear the authentic music of the day (warm ballads, lively jigs and a generous portion of shenanigans) sung and played from the heart on a wide range of instruments including Celtic harp, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, Irish bouzouki, tin whistles and bodrhan.

Young Avan Yu's stellar career has made yet another quantum leap forward with his remarkable triumph in Australia as Winner of the 2012 Sydney International Piano Competition.

The program will include works by Debussy, Beethoven, and Chopin

We eagerly look forward to the first Music On Sunday visit of the Concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.  And what a first visit!
